2006 Old Vine Zinfandel, Buchignani-Garcia Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley-new release

Wine Enthusiast gave our 2010 Zinfandel 95points...  and says "if you had to choose one Zinfandel to showcase Dry Creek Valley, it’s this one. The vines are said to be over 100 years of age. Just superb. Has the balance and depth of a fine Cabernet Sauvignon, but with Zin’s spicy, briary, brambly personality. Erupts in wild berry, currant, cola, leather, mocha and peppery spice flavors that are so rich and deep and long-lasting. Pricey, but sets a benchmark for Zinfandel. Only 550 cases were produced."
This cult style, high octane, wine is as usual over 17% alcohol. Don’t let that scare you. The balance is perfect. It’s rich beyond compare, without a hint of heat on the palate or in the finish.

Every vintage of this Zinfandel wins competitions. It is the mother wine that taught us how to deal with high sugar grapes and extremely difficult fermentations. Everything we learned here we applied to other wines, making them fruitier and better balanced.

Open this Old Vine Zinfandel at the end of a meal with friends, and it will reawaken the palate and restart the conversation. It is remarkable.
